Our top priority is patient safety. Our offices, equipment, emergency protocols and surgeons undergo evaluation by a state dental board appointed examiner with observation of actual surgical procedures and anesthesia administration. After evaluation our surgeons and offices are licensed by the Alabama Dental Board to provide General Anesthesia.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation + Local Anesthetic

Nitrous oxide sedation, also known as laughing gas is a common sedation method that helps patients relax during an oral surgery procedure. Nitrous oxide is managed through a nasal mask, and the patient remains conscious throughout the surgery. It has a quick onset and wears off quickly, allowing patients to resume their normal activities soon after the surgery.

Hospital or Surgery Center Anesthesia

At WISE, we offer multiple sedation options. In this option a patient is admitted to a hospital or surgery center where general anesthesia is administered by an anesthesiologist. Usually indicated for medically complex patients with heart and/or lung conditions for larger procedures.

General/ Deep Anesthesia

This option of general/deep sedation, medication is administered through an intravenous (IV) line. Medication is administered through the IV and causes you to fall asleep after which your surgery will be completed. General/deep sedation is available for many patients and types of oral surgery procedures. It is common for patients to elect to receive general/deep sedation for dental implants or wisdom teeth removal. General/deep anesthesia may also be needed if local anesthetic fails to completely relieve pain at the surgical site.

Intravenous Sedation

Intravenous sedation (IV), also known as “twilight sleep” is similar to general/deep anesthesia, in that it is administered through an IV. IV sedation enables patients to tolerate their surgery comfortably. It is common that patients may not remember the procedure itself. IV sedation is a form of conscious sedation, meaning that you will be awake, but generally feel relaxed enough to drift in and out of sleep. This is a safe and commonly desired option for implants, wisdom teeth removal and extractions.
